The John Collins Lecture will be held on Tuesday 8th November at 5.30pm in the Harris Lecture Theatre.

All are welcome to this annual lecture in honour of Canon John Collins (1905-82), who served as Chaplain of Oriel from 1937-48. Canon Collins later became renowned as a passionate campaigner for peace and social justice. The John Collins Society exists to encourage members of the Oriel community to reflect and act on the relationship between Christianity and contemporary social, political, and scientific questions.

This year’s lecturer will be John, Lord Alderdice, psychiatrist, member of the House of Lords and Liberal Democrat Party Spokesman on Northern Ireland. Lord Alderdice will address the question of mental health in the public sphere in a talk entitled, ‘Has the World Gone Mad?’

In addition to his work in politics, Lord Alderdice is a Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict based at Harris Manchester College.
