About Sarah Connolly

Awarded a CBE in the 2010 New Year’s Honours and the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2012 Singer Award, Sarah Connolly is much in demand for the lyric mezzo-soprano repertoire.

She has sung at the Lucerne, Salzburg, Tanglewood and Three Choirs Festivals and BBC Proms where, in 2009, she was a memorable guest soloist at The Last Night. Opera engagements have taken her around the world from the Metropolitan Opera to Covent Garden and La Scala; to the Munich and Vienna State Operas and the Bayreuth and Aix-en-Provence Festivals.

Highlights in her 2016/17 season include Geschwitz Lulu (ENO) and Gertrude in the world premiere of Brett Dean's Hamlet (Glyndebourne).  Concerts include The Dream of Gerontius (Berliner Staatskapelle/Barenboim); Fricka Das Rheingold (Boston Symphony Orchestra/Nelsons); Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis (Hamburg Symphoniker/Tate) and Das Lied von der Erde (Chicago Symphony Orchestra/Haitink).  She opens the Wigmore Hall’s 2016/17 season with Malcolm Martineau and she will also give recitals in Madrid and Amsterdam with Julius Drake; in Schwarzenberg with Graham Johnson and in Atlanta, San Francisco and New York with Joseph Middleton.
