Dr. Cuenca Grau's research interests are in knowledge representation, ontologies and ontology languages, description logics, automated reasoning and applications in areas such as bio-medical information systems and Semantic Web. Dr. Cuenca Grau teaches Intelligent Systems and Databases at the college and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning both at the college and the department.

Dr. Cuenca Grau has published widely in the areas of knowledge representation and ontology-based technologies. He has also been involved in the standardisation by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) of the Web Ontology Language OWL 2.
