Dr Lindsay Driediger-Murphy
College Lecturer in Ancient History
Dr Lindsay G. Driediger-Murphy, BA Hons (Calgary), MPhil (Oxon)
Background
I did my BA in Greek and Roman Studies at the University of Calgary, Canada, before coming to Oxford to complete an MPhil in Ancient History, focusing on Roman divination in Livy. My DPhil at Oxford (2007-) concentrates on the relationship between human will and divine will as mediated by state divination in the Roman Republic.
Teaching
I joined Oriel as a stipendiary lecturer in Ancient History in 2011. I teach Roman History papers (both 'Periods' and 'Topics') for Oriel College and Jesus College, focusing on the social, political, and religious history of the Mediterranean between 241 BC - AD 312.
Research
My research interests include ancient and modern conceptualizations of religion, interactions between religions in antiquity, and Greek and Latin historiography.
Admissions
I am Organizing Tutor for admissions for Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and I welcome contact and questions from applicants interested in this degree.
