Ms Rebecca Springer
I research and teach on the history of Britain and Europe in the central and late Middle Ages.
At Oriel, I teach the History of the British Isles II (1042-1330), Prelims General History II (1000-1300) and FHS General History V (1100-1273) papers.
I am broadly interested in the intersection between religious ideas and elite-popular relationships. My doctoral research, funded by a Clarendon Scholarship, examines local religious life in late twelfth- and early thirteenth-century England. My specific interests include the localisation of intellectual history; prelacy, pastoral care, spiritual ministries, preaching and lay religion; the development of parishes; the regular canons; and palaeography and manuscript studies.
