The organisers of this year's Oriel Garden Play have decided to take a break from Shakespeare, and this year students will perform George Farquhar's The Beaux' Stratagem on Tuesday to Thursday of 8th Week (12th-14th June) in Front Quad.
The Beaux' Stratagem is a Restoration comedy first performed at the Theatre Royal in London in March 1707. It tells the story of two young gentlemen, Archer and Aimwell, who have fallen on hard times and decide on a plan to travel the country, entrapping young heiresses and stealing their money. However, their plans go awry when they meet Dorinda, and one of the protagonists falls in love with her, and of course comedy ensues.
