Professor Ian Horrocks

Fellow and Professor of Computer Science

I have been a Fellow at Oriel since 2007.

Research interests

I lead a research group at the Oxford University Department of Computer Science working in the area of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, and in particular on the development of logic based ontology languages and reasoning systems to support ontology engineering applications, for example the development of ontologies for use in biomedical research and patient record systems. We are also very active in the development of ontology languages for the Semantic Web, and I co-chair the World Wide Web Consortium's web ontology language working group.
