Richard Scholar Awarded the Title of Professor

Congratulations are in order for Oriel's Senior Tutor and Fellow in French, Richard Scholar, who has been awarded the title of Professor of French and Comparative Literature by the University.

Richard's main research interests lie in early modern French literature and thought, comparative and interdisciplinary early modern studies, and questions of critical method and theory. He has written and edited books including: Montaigne and the Art of Free-Thinking (2010) and The Je-Ne-Sais-Quoi in Early Modern Europe: Encounters with a Certain Something (2005), and his latest publication(as co-editor) Caribbean Globalizations, 1492 to the Present Day (2015).

Alongside his role as Senior Tutor, Richard teaches French literature and thought, especially of the 16th and 17th centuries, and French language her at Oriel.
