Sarfaraz completed his bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning (URP) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2009.

In 2014, he received his M.Sc. degree in International Cooperation and Urban Development from the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD), Germany as an Erasmus Mundus scholar.
