New Book by Emeritus Fellow
Congratulations to Emeritus Fellow John Barton on his new book, A History of the Bible: The Book and Its Faiths.
Described as ‘nothing short of a masterpiece’ by The Sunday Times, A History of the Bible is a unique guide on how the books of the Old and New Testaments came to be written, how they were collected to form a unified Bible, and how they have been received and interpreted in Judaism and Christianity down to the present.
Through his incisive readings of the Bible, which expose the sources and traditions behind the passages, Barton demonstrates that the Bible is not the fixed text it is often perceived to be, but the result of a long and intriguing evolution.
The book includes a discussion of ancient and modern biblical translations, including the King James Version, and concludes with a look at how the Bible functions for religious faith.
A History of the Bible will be released on 4 April 2019.
