Our outreach and schools liaison work

Oriel’s Outreach Programme

Our outreach programme supports talented students from schools and areas that are currently under-represented at Oxford, helping to demystify the application process and providing an insight into studying here.

As part of the University of Oxford’s regional outreach strategy, Oriel works primarily with schools in our linked regions of Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We aim to build relationships with non-selective state schools in these areas, providing resources for teachers to help support their talented students and show them what Oxford has to offer.

Support for Teachers

If you are a UK state school teacher who would like to support Oxford candidates more effectively, please contact Oriel’s Outreach Officer.

The College offers a variety of in-person and online events for target schools, including:

  • School visits for all ages
  • Attendance at Careers & HE Fairs
  • Regional Hub events & collaborations with Cambridge
  • Application support & interview workshops

Outreach Travel Expense Reimbursement Scheme

Oriel College is excited to announce the Outreach Travel Expense Reimbursement Scheme. Thanks to the generosity of an alumnus, the college is able to reimburse the cost of travel for individuals and schools visiting Oxford as part of Outreach events.

The cost of travel can often present an obstacle to accessing Outreach support at Oriel College and the wider University. By providing financial support to non-selective schools in the college’s link regions, Oriel can ensure that no school is prevented from accessing programmes and events run throughout the year as a result of travel expenses.

Day visits to Oriel College organised by non-selective state schools in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Kensington and Chelsea, and Richmond will be automatically considered for reimbursement under this scheme.

Once approved, applicants will be asked to provide UK bank details and proof of travel expenses to avail of reimbursement. For more information, or to seek reimbursement for travel costs, please get in touch with Arron O’Connor, the college’s Outreach Officer via
