To Celebrate our 700 year history, we’re bringing together Oriel’s wider community for a day of thought-provoking conversation and the chance to explore the College’s hidden treasures, including our Magna Carta!
On Saturday 6 June, experience the last of our three Inspiration Days, a varied programme of talks and activities, lead by Oriel’s research fellows and academics around the theme Risks and Opportunities.
Talks are designed to be engaging for anyone of secondary-school age and above, making it a great opportunity to bring family members considering Oxbridge — or simply anyone curious about the ideas shaping our future.
Across two lively sessions, Oriel’s academics will unpack their research through short accessible talks and discussion. Expect ideas ranging from the state of our current political economy to trusting AI, why we should think for ourselves and the relationship between humans and the environment.
The session will be broken up into mini talks on the following topics:
Can We Trust AI? Making Artificial Intelligence More Reliable
Amirmohammad Farzaneh (Engineering)
The Artificial Composer: A Forensic Musicology Perspective on Artificial Intelligence and Music
John Peirce O’Reilly (Music)
Why Should We Think and Write for Ourselves?
Kathryn Murphy (English)
Q&A
The session will consist of a panel discussion followed by a contrasting mini talk on the following topics:
The Political Economy of Government Debt and Economic Growth – Panel discussion
