The Oxford Town and Gown is a 10km fun run through the streets of Oxford. This year it will take place on the morning of Sunday 12th May. It’s a great occasion, with around 5,000 runners participating and spectators lining the route as it winds around Oxford. In the past there has been a strong contingent from Oriel from right across the college, so if you are considering on running this year please join the official Oriel College Team.
All runners are welcome, from first timers to experienced athletes. The link for information and registration is below — when you register select the box marked “join a team” and select “Oriel College” from the Find your Team pull-down menu. Once you have registered on-line, please send an email to Andrew Boothroyd (andrew.boothroyd@oriel.ox.ac.uk) so we can record who has entered as part of the Oriel team and keep you in touch with plans for the day. The race entry fee is £32.50.
In order to show unity we shall be providing free Oriel T-shirts to run in. Please send Andrew your shirt size after you have registered (all T-shirts are unisex: sizes are small = 36″ chest, medium = 38″, large = 40″, XL = 42″, XXL = 46″).
If you haven’t done an event like this before you should find the whole experience very empowering, and being part of a college team makes it even more enjoyable. The event supports Muscular Dystrophy research, so just by entering you will be supporting a good cause. Most people just run for fun, but every participant is individually timed so if you want to challenge yourself you can. There are fitness tips on the event website, and it is a good idea to do some training even if you are only running to take in the atmosphere.
