Oriel has partnered with the university to offer a full scholarship for a Black or Mixed-Black UK student to pursue their graduate study at Oxford as part of the Black Academic Futures programme.
Black UK graduate students are currently under-represented at Oxford (around 1.5% of all postgraduate students compared with 4% across the UK sector). The Black Academic Futures scholarship programme aims to transform this position by rapidly increasing both applications from and funded places for well-qualified UK Black graduate students.
It is intended that the Oriel scholarship, which covers course fees in full and provides a grant for living costs, will be awarded in the next admissions round (for 2022 entry). The scholarship is awarded for the full duration of the student’s course, and all full-time or part-time DPhil and master’s courses taught at Oriel are eligible.
For the coming academic year, up to 30 scholarships are available through the programme for applicants who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, who are of Black or Mixed-Black ethnicity and who hold an offer for either a taught or research postgraduate degree at the University of Oxford, starting in the 2022-23 academic year.
Oriel is delighted to be able to support this initiative and we’re looking forward to welcoming a scholarship recipient into our friendly, energetic MCR community.
