Rishi Goel (2017, MSc Integrated Immunology) has been selected as a 2022 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans provides up to $90,000 to support outstanding immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing a graduate education in the United States. In addition to financial support, the 2022 Fellows will join an active alumni network which includes US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Olympians Amy Chow and Patricia Miranda, US Ambassador to Spain Julissa Reynoso Pantaleón, and more than 700 other New Americans who are leaders in their respective fields.
Rishi earned his Master’s degree at Oriel with distinction, awarded to the top student in the immunology program. Rishi also competed in university athletics as a member of the Oxford Blues lacrosse team.
Rishi is currently a student of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his clinical training, Rishi is a research fellow in the laboratory of E. John Wherry. His recent work focuses on understanding immune responses to viral pathogens and has led to new insights into the development of immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection and mRNA vaccination. He hopes to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, using the latest innovations in immunology research to improve patient care.
