Rt Revd Frank Griswold (1937-2023)

Frank Griswold was raised in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and attended St Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated from Harvard with a BA in English Literature in 1951 before receiving his ordination training and going on to a second BA in Theology at Oriel in 1960.

Frank Griswold served as Bishop of Chicago from 1987, becoming the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the USA in 1998, serving until 2006. His interest in interfaith dialogue led him to become a member of the board of World Religious Leaders for the Elijah Interfaith Institute, a non-profit, international, UNESCO-sponsored interfaith organization.

Bishop Griswold is survived by his widow, Phoebe, two daughters, Hannah and Eliza, as well as three grandchildren.
