Wallaby prop to represent Oriel College at ‘historic’ rugby Varsity match

Tom is currently taking a sabbatical from professional rugby to study for the Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree as a student of Oriel College.

He described the match as a “historic fixture” and said he is “extremely pleased to represent the college … on the biggest stage.”

During his time at Oriel College so far Tom has helped bolster the college’s rugby team through offering coaching.

“The special part of the collegiate system,” he said, “is that it allows you to not only play university sports but also represent your college in a more sociable but nonetheless extremely competitive environment.”

“Some of the best memories I’ve had at Oxford have been of playing Oriel rugby and the close college friendships I have formed,” he added.

Tom is the recipient of two scholarships: a John Monash Scholarship, awarded outstanding Australian graduates enrolling on to postgraduate degrees oversees, and the Tommy Lawton Scholarship.
