Professor Justin Coon

BSc, MA, PhD, FIMA

Professor Coon received a BSc degree (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University, USA in 2000. In 2005, he completed a PhD in Communications at the University of Bristol.

Professor Coon held the position of Research Manager at Toshiba Research Europe Ltc. from 2010 – 2013, during which time he led all theoretical and applied research on the physical layer at TRL. Professor Coon joined the University of Oxford in 2013 as a University Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Science and a Tutorial Fellow of Oriel College.

Professor Coon is the recipient of TRL’s Distinguished Research Award for his work on block-spread CDMA, aspects of which have been adopted as mandatory features in the 3GPP LTE Rel-8 standard.

Professor Coon is also the Technical Manager of the EU FP7 project DIWINE, has served as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2007 – 2013) and the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2013 – present). He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Research Interests

Professor Coon’s research interests include communication theory, network theory, and signal processing.
