Oriel College, Jesus College, and Faculty of Classics, Oxford
Salary: £50,300 – £67,541 p.a. plus college allowances
The Faculty of Classics, Oxford is recruiting an Associate Professor (or Professor) of Ancient History (Greek and/or Roman). The appointee will be employed by Oriel College, Jesus College, and the Faculty of Classics, and will hold a Governing Body Fellowship at Oriel College. The post is available from 1st October 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
This is a permanent appointment upon completion of a successful review. The review is conducted during the first 5 years.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher and teacher in Ancient History broadly defined, who will attract and teach graduate students in Ancient History and will supervise graduate student theses.
You will be required to conduct research, give lectures, classes and tutorials, supervise, support and examine students at all levels, and engage in the administrative work of the Faculty and the Colleges – in examination assessment, admissions processes, and faculty administration.
You will have, or be able to demonstrate the promise of, a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching at a level appropriate to the stage of your career, together with clear plans for research which demonstrate an ability and a willingness to maintain that record.
You should also have an ability and willingness to obtain external funding for individual or larger research projects, and an awareness of the possibilities for seeking funding in the UK and abroad.
You must have received the degree of PhD/DPhil by the advertised closing date for this position.
