Oriel Organ Scholars to Perform at Christ Chuch Cathedral
Oriel Organ Scholars, Ben Banks and Harry Baigent, will perform as part of the Christ Church Music Society Recital Series at 1.15pm on Monday 17th February.
Ben and Harry will be performing Olivier Messiaen’s masterpiece La Nativité du Seigneur in the beautiful surroundings of Christ Church Cathedral. This epic piece narrates the story of Christ’s birth and life from the mysterious beginnings of La Vierge et L’enfant to the glorious finale in Dieu Parmi Nous. This piece is probably Messiaen’s best known organ work in nine movements (although Ben and Harry will only be able to fit eight of these into their time slot), and was composed in 1935. Each movement is based on a verse from the bible about Christ's birth and life.
Ben and Harry have previously performed some of these movements in the Oriel Chapel, but this will be the first time they have put them all together into one performance.
Ben and Harry's performance will begin at 1.15pm on Monday 17th February and is free to attend for those who would like to go along to hear them in action at Christ Church.
