Professor James Sparks

MA, PhD

Professor James Sparks is a Senior Research Fellow in the Mathematical Physics Group (Mathematical Institute) as well as Professor of Mathematical Physics. He also currently serves as Head of the Mathematical Institute. At Oriel he tutors students in both pure and applied mathematics courses, such as analysis and quantum theory.

Research Interests

Professor Sparks is interested in mathematical physics, theoretical physics, and geometry. More specifically he works on supersymmetric field theories, supergravity, and the how these are related via the AdS/CFT correspondence. He is also interested in geometric structures that arise in string theory and theoretical physics more broadly, notably special holonomy manifolds, Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, and generalized geometry.

Selected Publications
