Information for Current Applicants

Admission Process at Oriel

Applicants selected for Oriel College will primarily receive communication from the Undergraduate Officer via email. The email address to note is admissions@oriel.ox.ac.uk, and we highly recommend adding this address to your contacts to prevent important messages from ending up in your spam folder.

It’s possible you may hear from other applicants who have received communications from their assigned colleges before you receive anything from Oriel. There’s no need for concern—rest assured that we are doing our utmost to relay information to you as quickly as we can.

Admissions key information
Updating Personal Information

If there are any changes to your address or email, please notify the Undergraduate Officer via email. Additionally, make sure to update your UCAS application accordingly. Please be aware that we will not receive automatic updates from UCAS regarding these changes, so it is essential that you keep us informed.

Contacting Tutors

We kindly ask that you do not reach out to tutors beyond the scope of the interview(s), including sending thank-you notes afterward. If you have specific questions for them, please direct those inquiries to the Undergraduate Officer.

Disability Support

If you have a disability that you have not disclosed on your UCAS application, please inform the Undergraduate Officer. Whether disclosed or not, please indicate if you require any special arrangements or support that will assist you during the process, especially if you are invited to an interview. Disclosure of a disability or Specific Learning Difficulty will not impact your application negatively, as admissions decisions are based solely on academic criteria.

Any information shared may be communicated with relevant staff in the College and the wider University who would facilitate necessary accommodations. For additional resources regarding support for students with disabilities, please visit www.ox.ac.uk/swd.

Interviews

All interviews will be conducted online.

We will contact you to let you know if you have, or have not, been shortlisted for an interview. To assist you in keeping track of deadlines and the admissions timeline, a provisional timetable for interviews for 2025 entry is available here.

We aim to contact shortlisted applicants with Microsoft Teams invitations for interviews approximately one week prior to the published interview start date. Please note that invitations may be sent closer to the interview date – this is more common with second college interviews, but you will receive ALL invitations at least 24hrs before the required interview time.

You don’t need to have Microsoft Teams installed provided that you have a browser that is capable of joining Microsoft Teams video calls. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are the recommended browsers for Microsoft Teams, but full details can be found on the Microsoft website.

Note: Safari is not recommended for use when joining Teams via a browser.

We strongly recommend that you practice using Teams before your interview so that you are familiar with how it works and what to expect on the day if you are shortlisted.

Written Work

The deadline to submit written work is Sunday, November 10, 2024. Please ensure you send your written work to the Undergraduate Officer at written.work@oriel.ox.ac.uk by this date. Be sure to include a cover sheet on the front of your submission. Documents should be sent in PDF format. If your work is not easily readable, please type it out and submit both versions along with the cover sheet.

If you are uncertain whether you need to submit written work, please refer to the Written Work webpage, where you can find a list of individual courses and their associated requirements.

If you anticipate any challenges in meeting this deadline, do not hesitate to email the Undergraduate Officer well in advance of November 10.

Feedback

The results for the tests specific to your chosen subject will be communicated to you by the relevant Department in early 2025. While there is no fixed date for the release of these scores, the test results are typically released from mid-January onwards by each Department.

Additionally, please be advised that LNAT scores will be available exclusively through Pearson, not through the Law Faculty or your College. We encourage you to visit the LNAT website for further details regarding the availability and retrieval of your scores.

Oriel College does not provide individual feedback to applicants, but you will be able to request written work, and interview scores via this Request Form. You can then compare your score in this Feedback Webpage (scheduled to be viewable after 15th Feb 2025). Please note that we are only able to provide quantitative scores, and not qualitative feedback on either written work or interviews. The deadline to request scores is 15th February 2025. Requests submitted after this date will not be accepted.
